What Does It Feel Like When a Home Finally Feels Like You?

Most people can describe a beautiful room.

Almost no one can describe the life they actually want to live inside it.

That gap is where most design goes wrong — and it is the question I have been sitting with all June. Not what should this space look like. But what should it feel like when you walk through the door at the end of the day?

I recently had the privilege of designing a home that appeared on American Dream TV on HGTV. What made that project remarkable was not the view — though the view is breathtaking. It was the clarity of two people who finally knew the answer to that question. Their home did not need to perform for anyone. It needed to feel like them.

That distinction changes everything. A home built around an image will eventually feel like exactly that — borrowed, maintained, performed. A home built around the truth of how someone actually lives grows more right with time.

This is the work I do. And it begins with one question.
